Inauguration
Captions later. Must sleep. Amazed we have Obama. Amazed 2 million people could descend on one place in space and time and have basically no problems. We are awesome.
Updated with captions 1/25.
- In the metro. The Metro cops had to hold people back to let the next train unload. Eventually they shut L'Enfant Plaza down.
- People crammed into cars getting out at L'Enfant Plaza
- Along Washington Ave mixing with blue and silver ticket holders
- Inching towards Silver Gate
- Overhead security.
- Which way to moo-ve?
- Holding tickets in the air to go through gate, Native American museum in background.
- First glimpse of capitol.
- Pepsi made bags that were appropriate size for security regulations
- Looking back at exit.
- On way to security checkpoint.
- Ray encouraged us to just chill and wait.
- Yolanda and her son got tickets from an Obama volunteer on the metro.
- This cop stood on a cement barrier and told stories about his Italian mother who would do worse than he if we got out of line.
- Through checkpoint. Trying to find good spot. Wanted to get near jumbotron.
- Sortof near?
- Privileged to be one of the 240,000 close to president Obama on this day.
- Looking forwards.
- With rapt attention
- Looking backwards. Cousin Phil says "That looks like America."
- 2 million people. No problems.
- Waiting. Standing. So very cold.
- BHO in the house!!! I was so very proud that he was led in by two San Franciscans.
- Dianne Feinstein's floating head proclaims the amazing process of a peaceful transfer of power, which should give hope to others in violent conflicts. I don't always agree with DiFi, but I did here.
- A flock of seagulls accompanied the classical quartet performing "Air and Simple Things." Tis indeed a gift to be simple and a gift to be free, and to finally come down where we ought to be.
- John Roberts flubbing the oath. I *thought* there was something wrong with it, and there was.
- Rus and I very happy with regime change.
- BHO made several memorable remarks in his speech. A shout out to nonbelievers. The quiet force of progress. Those who went before and worked hard for the next generation. We'll extend a hand if you unclench your fist.
- Goodbye George
- D.C. did a great job over-preparing for every eventuality, including snow.
- On the snow job.
- Lots of National Guardsmen made their presence felt. Everyone on security did a great job.
- Rus and I went to the Art of Change ball, where we found a piece of art from Alex Grey.
- Sadly, Grey's Chapel of Sacred Mirrors in NYC is closing. I think I need a print of this one.
- On the Art of Change dance floor. Then we were off to Funk for Peace with Fort Knox 5. It's not my revolution if you can't dance to it.
