Why

Originally, I started this site forĀ these reasons. I bought a few blog ads, and was happy to see folks from democrats.org and house.gov in my log. Happier when the meme spread.

I left off after the November elections, hoping that the election of Democrats would lead to a change. Sadly, because the Senate remained basically tied with the number of Republicans and Democrats, nothing much did. Also, an alliance of House Democrats beholden to special interests pushed through dumb bills. (I also left off because iWeb really sucks for maintaining a blog, especially one with clean HTML, and not on Apple servers. This is now on WordPress using a theme by Andreas Viklund that I tweaked.)

I really don’t have the stomach for politics for longer than a few months at a time. It’s messy. And disappointing. But, I left Apple because I didn’t want to be selling iPods while Rome burned. So I’ll have at it again.

My original site focused on getting people registered to vote. Why? I took some time around the November 2004 election to get out the vote in Sparks, NV. However, that seemed like a wasted effort if the numbers were against you. So the thing that seemed to make sense to me was getting more people on the voting rolls.

Better heads than I have taken that effort to a much higher level this year, and it excites me that so many people focused on it.

Another person took it upon themselves this year to make a voter registration by state page. I’m glad they did, as it was a royal PITA in iWeb.

Someone even took the “five friends” meme and made a movie. Someone with a budget! Someone who was awesome in Gilbert Grape.
